Conserving Water

To meet freshwater needs, the Florida Keys depend upon a pipeline that moves water 130 miles southwest from Florida City to Key West. While this system has proven to be reliable through the years, Keys residents, like those in the remainder of South Florida, are still faced with periodic water shortages when droughts threaten to dry out our water source – the underground Biscayne Aquifer.

Minor water leaks account for more than 1 trillion wasted gallons of water each year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Furthermore, 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons of water or more per day.

Fortunately, there are many simple steps that people can take, not only to prevent leaks, but to reduce intentional water use as well.

Which of the following water conservation techniques do you employ? (choose as many as you like)
